Many Yankee fans were cautiously optimistic going into 2024. After seeing they'd open up on the road with a 4 game series against their most recent thorn in their side, Houston Astros, many Yankee fans would have signed up for a split.
They'd all sign up for a sweep. In the 4 game set, the Yanks showed tons of grit, solid starting pitching, and an above average pen.
Lots of hype surrounded the big offseason acquisition. Soto didn't just meet the expectation, but blew past it in just 4 games. Soto opened up the season with 9 hits while batting .529 with an OPS of 1.365. With the fear of Judge right behind him, Soto is getting more pitches to hit and taking full advantage.
After a shaky defensive performance Saturday, the Bronx Bombers answered the bell Sunday with clutch defensive plays by Berti and Verdugo to close out the reeling Astros.
To see this level of success early while Judge struggles and Cole is getting healthy is very promising for what is to come. If the Yankees continue to roll and build a foundation of confidence, this team has all the makings of a dangerous team.
Player of the Series - Juan Soto
Honorable Mention - Oswaldo Cabrera, Anthony Volpe, Marcus Stroman
What's Next - 3 game set against the reigning AL Champs, Arizona Diamondbacks.
