Yankee fans can rejoice, they finally got an addition to their rotation. Yankees signed Marcus Stroman to a 2 year deal for $37M (18.5M AAV). Based on preliminary data, there is also a third year vesting option.
The two time all-star will likely be a 3/4 starter in Bronx Bomber's rotation.
If someone would have proposed the Yanks signing Stroman a month ago, many would say you were crazy. Stroman has publicly had strong words against the Yankees and their GM Brian Cashman in recent years. With the Yankees options to bolster their rotation starting to diminish, it looks like all parties were able to overcome the past.
Many Yankees fans won't love this deal but this could be just what the doctor ordered. Rather than giving up top level prospects like Jones and Dominguez for Burnes or Cease, the Yankees make an upgrade to their rotation while keeping their valuable assets.
Although this move is a major piece, I wouldn't count the Yankees out for further upgrades. Rumors have surfaced that the Yankees have made an offer to National League Cy Young Award winner, Blake Snell. After missing out on Yamamoto, Yankee fans would have definitely signed up for the following 2024 rotation.
Gerrit Cole
Blake Snell
Carlos Rodon
Marcus Stroman
Nestor Cortes
