After a crazy 24 hours if you're tightly tuned in to the Shohei watch, the dual position phenom decided to sign with the Dodgers for $700M over 10 years. A whopping $70 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR!
Cannot say I'm surprised as it always felt like the fit that made the most sense from the beginning. The 2023 MVP mashed 44 HRs last year and had a strong 3.14 ERA prior to his second major elbow injury. The star had surgery to repair his elbow on September 19th and is scheduled to be ready to make his hitting debut on Opening Day. Shohei should be ready to make his way back on the mound for the start of the 2025 season.
Will we look back on this deal and laugh in 10 years, I think so. But there is no doubt that Shohei is an absolute global icon who will fill seats, sell jerseys, and keep multiple countries in tune with the Dodgers for years to come.
